In this article I am going to explain what is Filter, how to
create Filter and Filter Templates.
Filter
Dashboard designer is used to create many kinds of dashboard
filters. It display particular information in dashboard. We can create
stand-alone dashboard items that can be reused across multiple pages in a
dashboard.
Filter Templates
Custom Table
Create a data table
and then use that to create a dashboard filter
MDX Query
In this dashboard filter uses a custom Multidimensional
Expressions (MDX) query.
Member Selection
It creates a dashboard filter by selecting dimension members
that are stored in SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) or a tabular data
source.
Named Set
It creates a dashboard filter by selecting a set of members
that was defined in Analysis Services.
Time Intelligence
It creates a dynamic time filter for a dashboard that remains
up to date automatically. Either you can create a filter that uses a list of
time periods, such as Year to Date or Last Six Months or you can create a
filter that uses a calendar control.
How to create Filter
For this filter
creation first we have to create reports. In my previous post I explained how to create
reports.
I created student report like this, for this report I am creating “Filter”.
Now let’s add Filter. To add the filters, right click on “PerformancePoint
Content” and click on New Filter as shown below
It displays like this, in this I am choosing “Member
Selection” and click “ok” button as
shown in figure below. For this I am using SSAS.
Choose the “ppsyear” data source and click on the “Next” button
In a Select Member step, we have to choose our Filter
dimension click on filter dimension.
In this I am choosing “Year Name” as shown in figure below
In this selected members I am selecting all the years as shown in below and click “ok”
In this selected members I am selecting all the years as shown in below and click “ok”
In “Selected display method” I am selecting t “Multi_Select Tree” for multiple options and click “Finish” as
shown below
Now, we have to create Dashboard. For create a dashboard
please check my previous post. choose “two column” dashboard. From the “Details
“pane, expand the filter section and drag and drop the “Year” for first column and expand the reports drag
and drop the ”student” report as shown in below.
Now , we have to give filter connection to report ,for this
in year filter select “Create Connection” as shown below.
It’s open Connection window
like this,
In this connection we have
send values to “Bottom Row –(1) student “ as shown below
In Connection choose Values
and Connect to “Student1 Year Name” ,Source value to “Member Unique Name” as
shown in figure below click ok
We finish our connection ,change the dashboard name as “filterdashboard
“ right click save the dashboard and
Deploy to SharePoint .it shows like this
in this filter I am choosing multiple selections as shown in below
Based upon our selection it will display the report, as
shown in fig below
